Bite of the Blood Clan - Part One
You can see it in the distance, the smell of sea salt thick in the air, you're finally near your destination. Solitude was getting closer as you walked, the sun close to setting in the distance. The setting sun glistened off the waters that lay just beyond the city. You notice a tall figure in blue silk robes walking toward you. You see that it's a High Elf and that he is looking at you, a grin on his face. He stops just before getting to you and rummages through his pack. You instictively stop and draw your elven longsword, Mageseal, and take your battle stance.
"I mean you no harm Redguard," the elf says to you as he pulls a hefty looking coin purse out of his pack."I merely wish to ask if you're interested in taking on a job for me," he tells you with a wide grin on his face.
"I may be interested depending if the line of work is in my skill range, Elf," you tell the elf, wondering why he would be looking for help here instead of the city that lay just in the near distance.
"You may call me Zamen, Redguard and I need someone to rid a nearby cave of a clan of vampires and bring me the amulet of the head vampire," the elf tells you looking at your drawn blade.
"I'm a Magehunter not a Vampire slayer, find someone else to do your dirty work," you tell him as you sheath your sword and continue walking.
"Then this is a good job for you to take, this particular clan is quite gifted in the arcane arts and I would be willing to pay you five hundred septims for there extermination." Zamen persuades you.
You stop and look the elf in the eyes, curiousity getting the best of you and shake his hand accepting the enticing deal.
"The cave is just to the west of here, on a small hill. You had best be careful cause I don't know how deep the cave truely is or where you will find your primary target, I'll be at an inn just north of this road," the elf says excitement in his eyes.
**************************
You finally reach the cave that Zamen had told you about, the smell of death overwhelming your nose. You pull out a fur scarf and an unlit torch from your pack, quickly wrapping the scarf around your face, hoping to keep the morbid scent out of your nose. You then take out a small jar of oil and two pieces of flint, soaking the torch and sparking it up. As the area around the cave is struck by the light of your torch you notice blood markings on some rocks right next to the caves entrance. You then draw your sword and slowly proceed into the cave almost tripping over a decaying corpse. Once inside you see that the cave is quite small and that it's completely empty, except for the body at the entrance. The cave wall is filled with the same markings from the ones you had noticed outside, they seemed to be ancient because you couldn't make out what they meant. The more you examine the tiny cave you notice that the far wall looks slightly different from the rest and that there are two circles on it. You place your torch against the wall and rub your hand on one of the circles, feeling a strange aura, when suddenly you feel something stab your hand and you quickly pull it back. Something you touched on the wall had drawn blood and you notice the circle that you had just touched was slightly glowing. You then put your blade in your other hand and touch the next circle feeling the same aura as the first, and without being stabbed by the second circle it also begins to glow. The wall then suddenly starts to slide down causing your torch to fall over, as you go to pick it up something tackles you to the ground causing you to drop your sword. You know it's one of the vampires and quickly punch it in the face hard, hitting it off you. As you get to your feet you notice that it's a Nord woman with pale skin, dark eyes, long black hair, and blood around her mouth. She quickly charges at you with blinding speed, fangs protruding out of her mouth, and you quickly roll out of the way barely getting nocked back down by the fiend. You see that your sword lay just behind the vampiric Nord and that the torch is at your feet, you pick it up and take out the jar of oil again. In that very instant the Nord women rushes at you, a look of bloodlust in her eyes, you quickly throw the oil at the fiend. The oil covers her hair and face blinding her and in that moment you strike the Nord with the torch, lighting the oil covering the vampire and setting it ablaze. She shrieks and flails as she's burned and runs into the hidden entrance of the cave. You retrieve your blade and begin to proceed through the door you just opened, noticing torches and bodies along the wall. You soon stumble upon a large chest laying atop an alter in the back of a large room, two dragon skulls resting on both sides of it, you also see that there are two sets of stairs on both sides converging just above the chest. You notice there is a pale figure sitting on a throne, also two other figures are standing on both sides of the throne. You realize the one standing on the right side of the throne is the Nord woman you had set ablaze, the one on the left side was what appeared to be a pale Breton male with bright red hair. The figure on the throne suddenly stands up, you see that he is a Dunmer with glowing red eyes, light silver hair, his skin a darkish gray. He wore all black and had a purple and gold amulet hanging around his neck.
"So Redguard, are you pleased with yourself for burning my bride," the Dunmer called to you, a look of neither anger or hate.
You walk a little further in examining around the room, looking to see if this were an ambush. You then look directly at the now standing Dunmer, noticing that there is an Ebony shortsword on his belt.
"I'm here to eradicate you and your kin, Vampire!" you shout at the Dunmer, seeing no expressions cross his face.
"Hmm, that's a shame, I guess you came here with that intent all along am I right?" the Dunmer asks you.
Just before you can answer you feel your arms being grabbed, you turn to see two Orcs restraining you, and then notice the Dunmer right in your face. He then grabs your head leans it to the side effortlessly, even though you tried using all your strength to resist, and sinks his teeth into your neck. You feel he's only taking a small amount of blood from you but you know it doesn't matter since you've just contracted vampirism. As you slowly fade from consciousness you see ten other vampires emerge from the shadows, walking in your direction.
************************
You awaken to find that your shackled to a wall in an unfamiliar part of the cave. There were no torches within the room you're in but you can still see as if the room itself was outside in the middle of the afternoon. You see that your pack and sword are on a small table on the other side of the room along with the Fur armor you had been wearing. You then notice the same Dunmer that had bitten you sitting in a chair just next to the table.
"Good morning," he says to you holding what appeared to be a fresh heart," this heart is your breakfast young one," he tells you, walking up to you and holding it out.
"Go to hell," you growl, noticing that the heart smells enticing and become disgusted that you could think that way.
"This isn't a human heart if that will make you feel better, Redguard. Oh by the way you may call me Desari," the Dunmer says to you, with that same expressionless face from last night. "The Daedra have such a unique taste if i do say so myself," he tells you as he bites the heart and squeezes it.
You remember how he had bitten you last night and wonder if you have vampiric strength, as you test the shackles. He looks at you and takes a few steps back, thats when you break the shackles off the wall feeling that it took almost all your strength doing so. You then quickly run to your equipment and draw your sword, noticing it felt different than before, and slash at Desari. He gracefully moves out of the way and uses a freeze spell on your legs, stopping you in your tracks. You had always hated magic ever since you were a young swordsman training at the monastery where you were raised. You never had any magical talent of your own. But in this moment you felt as though a part of you was being - silenced. You had felt this before in your youth but to a lower degree. Now it felt as though your entire being was being contained. You knew it was your Elven longsword, Mageseal, it had kept you silenced ever since you had recieved it. Was the vampirism allowing you to feel it affecting you more? You then drop your sword making you feel whole again and without even thinking point down at the ice. You feel your magicka fusing with the elements around you and your hand bursts into flames as you melt away the ice on your legs. The sensation of using magic for the first time was pure ecstacy and it felt quite instinctual. You then notice a faint smile on Desari as he watches you melt the ice with your magic. You then hold your hands infront of you and fire a bolt of lightning at him. You notice he just stands there smiling at you, when you notice the spell bounce off him striking you and sends you flying into the wall.
"Well done, well done," he says to you with excitement in his voice. "That was a beautiful spell, especially for someone who has never used magic before." The smile now wide on his face.
"How did you know that was my first time?" you ask Desari, dizzy from being struck by your own spell.
"Because I had spies watching you for quite some time now. Also just the way you handled it and the expression on your face when your touched your own blade. Now how about delving deeper into the joys of magic and vampirism, Redguard?"
